Galeria Sztuki Dworcowa Wroclaw, in collaboration with All that Art! Foundation, have the pleasure to present Mimesis: (Re)imagining the Real, the solo exhibition of Alin Bozbiciu, a young Romanian artist internationally acclaimed on the European art scene.

Born in the year of the Revolution of 1989, Alin Bozbiciu’s personal path coincided with the years of profound change in Romania in the post-Communist era. His own transformative experience forms the basis of a personal mythology in which reality and imagination merge into magical visual installations that dissolve the gap between “real” and “unreal”.

In his elaborate compositions, the artist constantly bounces between the real world and the one that he has imagined, drawing upon references from art history, mythological tropes and theatrical imagery. Making poignant existential statements about the contemporary experience, Alin Bozbiciu articulates a symbolic discourse that goes beyond the boundaries of representation and of figurative painting. Rather than approaching “mimesis” simply as a form of realism, the artist highlights the ambivalence of this concept in his quest to find a new visual solution of how our image dominated world should be represented today.

Through a series of introspective and dream-like compositions, the artist attempts to transgress the traditional perception of time and space, whilst emphasizing the infinite possibilities of painting as means to represent the many facets of the human condition and contemporary experience. By bringing together representations of angels or other imaginary characters inspired by baroque imagery, along with depictions of human bodies in ritualistic movement, the artist challenges viewers to immerse themselves in an imaginary world with a poetic dimension, in which myth and metaphor prevail. The spontaneity of his pictorial gesture accentuates the dynamic between the soft, restricted colour palette, and the vigorous darker colours, offering a versatile and refreshing perspective to the medium of painting.
